Kennedy's Grand Entrance

Kennedy Mae Bonomo

Date: Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Time: 9:29 am
Weight: 5 lbs 14 ounces
Length: 17 3/4 inches
Place: Queen of the Valley Hospital in West Covina, CA

Kennedy was scheduled to come into the world on Wednesday, August 13th, via c-section @ Queen of the Valley Hospital. My doctor scheduled my c-section one week prior because Kennedy was still breached and was expected to be about 10 lbs. We were advised to arrive at the hospital at 7:00 am to prepare for surgery. I was so anxious - I was unable to sleep at all the night before. I was anticipating the pain I was about to endure, however, I was so anxious to meet my little girl.

The entire week leading up to my c-section I was sad at the fact that my mom might not be able to be present for the birth of Kennedy, however, at the last minute the anesthesiologist agreed to let her in the operating room. My mom was elated!!
The nurse came into the room at 9:00 am sharp to wheel me away to the operating room. We were off....my mom, Brian, and I were on our way. The doctors began the procedure and the nurse summoned my mom and Brian. It took only a matter of minutes before they pulled Kennedy out. I heard a nurse say, "baby out"....but Kennedy did not make a peep. All we could hear is her struggling to breath - Kennedy was silent. They rushed her over to the table and began working on her. My fears were right. The weeks leading up to my c-section I had this strange feeling that Kennedy was coming to early, that she just wasn't ready to come into this world yet. I told Brian that I was afraid Kennedy was going to be small. This was one of those times I wish I wasn't right. My biggest fear came true. Kennedy was four weeks early and only weighed 5 lbs 14 ounces. The NICU team was called. They weighed her, brought her over to me so I could take a peak at my daughter for the first time and then they rushed her away. Brian and my mom followed the NICU team while I was put to sleep and my surgery was finished up.

I woke up in the recovery room all alone. No Brian, no mom, no Kennedy!!! Finally the door opens and in comes Brian.
